Olympus XZ-1 Adapter, why Delrin?

We get asked a lot why Delrin® was the material of choice for the Olympus XZ-1 lens. One of the most compelling reasons is illustrated below.

This Olympus XZ-1 was used to test an aluminum adapter  prototype. After attaching and removing the adapter from the camera a few times I noticed that the black plating had begun to wear away from the trim bezel surrounding the Zuiko lens.

The bezel appears to be anodized aluminum, (which I would have thought more durable). In any case, we’d advise keeping metal parts away from the XZ-1 unless you don’t care about its appearance.

How is the lens adaptor attached to the xz-1 camera? Is it held by friction, adhesive, or screw thread?

      Hi Steven,

The Lensmate XZ-1 tube adapter threads into the base of the cameras zoom lens and is slightly longer than the lens at full zoom. You may use any standard 52mm filter with no vignetting, and use the OEM lens cap if you wish or the 52mm clip in style lens cap for a more secure fit. Note that the clip in style 52mm lens cap will not fit the camera without the adapter.
