Hoya HMC Neutral Density Filter ND8 58mm

Hoya HMC Neutral Density Filter ND8 58mm

The Hoya Multi-coated Neutral Density Filter ND8 is used to reduce the amount of light entering the lens, done to achieve effects such as a shallower depth of field and/or motion blur of a subject in a wider range of situations and atmospheric conditions.

Neutral Density filters have several uses and offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film or sensor. They have no effect on color balance.

Their primary uses are:

  • To enable slower shutter speeds to be used, to record movement or motion blur in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars.
  • To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background and improve bokeh. The ND8 will reduce the light transmission by 3 stops.

We would always recommend cleaning a filter with a micro cloth to remove dust and general fingerprints.

Should something on the filter require a more indepth cleaning use our high-quality disposable lens tissues by Peca and the MC liquid lens cleaner.

Make sure the glass surface has to dust or grit on it.

Take a lens tussue, fold it one or twice (depending on size) and place a couple of drops of liquid lens cleaner on the tissue and wipe the tissue in a circular pattern starting from the center and moving out to the edge.

Immediately follow the first tissue with a new dry tissue using the same pattern.

Warning: We do not recommend using a micro cloth with any liguid cleaner because dust and grit an become trapped in the fibers and damage the lens or filter on subsequent uses.
